Tax and accounting built for better business

Meet your new business partner

I come from a long line of small business owners; great-grandfathers and grandfathers on both sides of the family as well as my parents all had their own small businesses. So, I've been immersed in the opportunities and challenges of small business ownership ever since I can remember.

I started my first business at age 28 (building websites for who else but small business owners), and after actually experiencing the opportunities and challenges of business ownership for myself, I decided to get some formal business education. I went on to earn an MBA and a Ph.D. in Strategic Management, and spent several years as a professor of management and entrepreneurial studies, formally studying the question I'd been living through informally since childhood: what actually makes a business succeed or fail? Later, I ran a multimillion-dollar construction fastener company for the better part of a decade, applying the theory I'd been studying to the practice of operational and strategic improvement.

I've been in the business owner's seat more than once, in more than one industry. So I know first hand that tax and accounting are about more than compliance, when done right they can be strategic tools that help you build a more successful business. They are also rarely what a founder or freelancer wants to spend their time on. That's why I started Sanders & Boyles, to pay attention to the things critical for success, that business owners often don't want to pay attention to.

I did my first "professional" tax return at 14 years old, working in my mom's tax preparation business, because I thought it was fun. Today, I'm an Enrolled Agent (the highest tax credential awarded by the IRS) and I still think its fun. Plus, I know from experience that in addition to fun, it's important for business owners to have someone who does more that just file a form once a year or flip through transactions on autopilot each month. Yes, I will ensure you are compliant from a tax and accounting perspective, but I treat my involvement in your business more like a strategic partner who's paying attention to the bigger picture and using an accounting lens to identify ways your business can get better.

If this sounds like something you and your business or organization would benefit from, then let's get in touch.
